Using the Live Captioning Feature in Google Chrome

Summary

Google Chrome allows you to caption your video and audio files using Live Captioning. Use the instructions below to access this feature.

Body

  • Open Chrome.
  • Paste this address into the address bar and hit enter: 

chrome://settings/help

  • Make sure Chrome is updated to the latest version. If an update is available, follow the instructions to install it. 
  • Paste this address into the address bar and hit enter: 

chrome://settings/?search=Live+Caption

  • In the highlighted section titled “Live Caption,” select the toggle to turn it on. Dialogue should appear indicating that additional caption resources are being downloaded, so wait for this to complete before continuing. 
  • Live Captioning should now be enabled. Whenever you visit a site that includes video or audio, a box will appear at the bottom of the browser window with the live transcription. This box can be closed or expanded using the respective buttons.
