When the ODBC driver is not working, try creating a new ODBC DSN. Be sure to try updating the current IBM Informix Driver by selecting the driver (DDCARS, the IBM Informix driver), click Configure... Click the Connection tab and update the username and password (use their CARS login credentials), select Apply & Test Connection. Now try to test the Access Database again; if the issue is still unresolved, continue with the instructions below.
**NOTE: The user MUST be an administrator on the machine. If during the IBM Informix Driver isn't listed as an available driver to install when selecting Add, you must install it manually. Map to the following path "\\fileserver\public\install\apps\odbc\", open the folder "clientsdk.3.70.FC2.WIN", then run installclientsdk.exe. When you are finished, reboot. Now the newly installed driver should be selectable from the list. If you are installing on Windows 10, you may need to run this in Windows 7 compatibility mode (choose troubleshoot when you right click on the installer).
The user MUST be an Administrator on their machine first. Reboot after making them an Admin & after setting up the ODBC driver.
- Click Start → Administrative Tools → Data Sources (you can also just search for “Data Sources” in the Start menu's search field)
- Under the System DSN tab, click the Add button
- Select IBM INFORMIX ODBC DRIVER (64-bit) and click Finish
- For Data Source Name, type “DDCARS”
- Enter a logical description (e.g.: “ODBC Connection for CARS”)
- Click the Connection tab
- Fill in the following settings: ( THIS IS CASE SENSITIVE)
- Server Name: wildcat4
- Host Name: cars.arbor.edu
- Service: 30002
- Protocol: onsoctcp
- Options: (blank)
- Database Name: cars
- User Id: CARS Usersname
- Password: CARS Users Password
- Click Apply & Test Connection to verify the settings and then
- click OK
- Reboot
