Problem:
A user needs to access CARS remotely/off campus.
Solution:
Download PuTTy
Configure PuTTy
- Session
- Host name = cars.arbor.edu:22
- Connection type = SSH
- Saved Sessions = CARS
- Terminal
- Keyboard
- The backspace key = Control-H
- The home and end keys = rxvt
- The function keys and keypad = VT100+
- Initial state of cursor keys = Normal
- Initial state of numeric keypad = Normal
- Enable extra keyboard features = Controll-Alt is different from AltGr
- Window
- Rows = 25
- Columns = 80
- Lines of scrollback = 200
- When window is resized = Change the number of rows and columns
- Control the scrollback in the window
- Display Scrollbar
- Reset scrollback on display activity
- Push erased text into scrollback
- Connection
- Data
- Auto-login username = network username
- Terminal-type string = vt100-mm
- Terminal speeds = 38400,38400
- Click Session again
- Click Save
Connect to the CARS database
- Open PuTTy
- Select CARS from Saved Sessions
- Click Load
- Click Open
- At PuTTy Security Alert click Yes
- Type user's password and press Enter
The user should see the CARS screen that they typically see when they are on campus.
- To exit, type exit and hit Enter
Tips
- User's will need to be connected to a high-speed Internet connection
- Since the EXE does not require an installation, the user may want to save the EXE file to their desktop
