Welcome to Webex!

Welcome to Webex!

SAU IT is very excited to offer Cisco Webex as a new tool to provide mobile interaction, remote services, and stronger collaboration.  Webex is not being provided as a cancellation to any existing services but rather as an expansion on tools to serve the SAU community.  This service is available because we already use Cisco phones and are provided these licenses as part of that service contract.  Please find details on this page to help you get familiar with Webex.  You will find some flyers on the basics, user tips, access information, and how to videos on many different aspects of Webex.  As always SAU IT is ready to help you if you are in need of some assistance getting access or settled with webex.  Feel free to reach out to us at the helpdesk by email at helpdesk@arbor.edu or at 517-750-1234 (campus extension 1234).

Webex Audio Issues

If you have been having issues with your audio dropping in and out during webex video conferencing in either the Meetings or Teams application you may need to adjust your settings.  Here are some quick options to try:

  • First is to make sure they close any other programs that use the camera/audio such as zoom, and Webex Teams; or Webex Meetings.
  • Second is a funny feature of Webex in both the Meetings and Teams application.  Webex uses ultrasonic signaling from Cisco devices to tell the applications that there is a webex room device available.  For this purpose it keeps using the microphone even after the app is closed. To fix:
    • Meetings: click on preferences;  select video systems;  uncheck “automatically discover nearby….” and save settings
    • Teams: click on the green call button in the upper right corner of the main dashboard; click on audio preferences;  select devices; uncheck the “use Ultrasound” and save settings

If you need assistance with this just let us know at helpdesk@arbor.edu or call us at 517-750-1234.

Webex Basic How To Videos

Webex Details

One of the first things you should know is that your webex is already set for you.  Just login in with your arbor username and password and you're in!  You can access it through the desktop application downloaded to your computer or you can access it through your internet browser.

Another step that would probably help a lot is setting up a test meeting.  Give it a try setting up your meeting, sending invites, joining the meeting, adjusting your camera and audio settings, sharing your screen, and all the other fun details of video meetings.  Don't be afraid to give it a go!

You will find some some basic videos below in the left column. You can find some more technical and details specific videos in the column to the right.

IMPORTANT NOTE:  When you enter your SAU credentials, any time you need to input your email, make sure you are using your primary SAU email address.  This is typically First.Last@arbor.edu.  If you attempt to make an account and it does not work you may want to try using a different email address.  If you are unsure you can also reach out to the helpdesk to verify your primary email.  A quick trick you can do that might also help is to open a new email and start typing in your name.  The SAU address book should list your name and contact with your primary email listed next to it.
