Note: These instructions are intended for the web-based version of Box. For instructions on how to operate Box on other platforms, please visit the Box Support Page.
Uploading a New File
In your browser, navigate to the folder in Box you would like to place the file in.
In the top right corner, select the “Upload” button. In the window that appears, navigate to where the file is stored on your computer and select it.
Alternatively, you are also able to click and drag from a file window to the Box browser window.
A bar will appear at the bottom of the screen to indicate the progress of the file upload. How long this takes will depend on your internet speed and the size of the file.
After this completes, your file is now uploaded. There will be a green message at the top or your screen if this was successful.
Creating a Shared Link to a File
In your browser, navigate to the file or folder in Box that you would like to share.
Select or hover over the item and three buttons should appear to the right of the row. Select the button.
A new menu will open and a shared link will be created. The link is also automatically copied to your clipboard.
Now that the link is copied, you are free to place it anywhere you like.
Archiving a File
In your browser, navigate to the file you would like to archive.
Select or hover over the item and three buttons should appear to the right of the row. Select the button, and then “Move or Copy."
Use the file explorer in the window that appears to navigate to your courses “archive” folder.
After selecting the folder, click the “Move” button in the bottom right.
Your file has now been archived. A message should appear at the top of your screen if this was successful.
Uploading a New Version of a File
In your browser, navigate to the file in Box that you would like to update.
Select or hover over the item and three buttons should appear to the right of the row. Select the button.
In the menu that appears, select “Upload New Version” and navigate to the file that is stored on your computer.
Your file is now updated. Note: If any shared links for this file have been created, they will now link to the most recent version in Blackboard, and therefore do not need to be changed. You may continue to use the existing share link.
Viewing the Version History of a File
In your browser, navigate to the file in Box that you would like to view the history of.
Select or hover over the item and three buttons should appear to the right of the row. Select the button.
In the menu that appears, hover over the “Properties” option. In the sub menu, click “Version History."
In the list that will be on the right side of your screen, you will be able to see every update that was made to the file, who made the update, and when it happened. Note: When collaborating with other users on a Office Online document (Word Online, Excel Online, etc.) each change to the document will result in a separate version number. Unlike Google Docs, Box does not support multiple users editing a document at the same time.
It’s also here that you’ll be able to download, restore, or delete a previous version of the file. Click the button on the desired version to perform these tasks.
