CARS on a personal machine

If a user would like to use CARS on his or her personal machine, they will need to run it from WorkSpace.

  1. User will login at https://workspace.arbor.edu/
  2. If they have Java installed and running, they'll see a loading bar
  3. At the Main Menu, click CARS
  4. This will launch a program called PUTTY (a portable terminal program)
  5. User will login using their CARS credentials.

If the user doesn't have Java installed or it's disabled on their machine, please follow these steps:

  1. install the latest Java here
  2. Once installed, ensure that it's activated by logging into workspace from Firefox or Internet Explorer (Chrome has a built-in version of Java, workspace doesn't work properly with it. User will see an "Activate Plug-In" button
  3. Once activated, click the drop-down menu left of the address bar with the lego block icon and select "Allow & Remember"
  4. User should now be seeing the loading bar, which means everything's running smoothly.

NOTE: The user has the option to install the VPN Agent so that they can lauch CARS directly from their SAU Asset when not connected to the ARBOR network. Find those instructions here.
