Spam

Spam is bulk, unsolicited email. For example, an email advertising discount pharmaceuticals under an unfamiliar name is spam.

More than 70% of messages sent to SAU register as spam in our filter. In addition, several more messages get “quarantined.” The quarantine is where messages go when it is unclear if they are spam or not.

Managing your mailbox

A  summary goes to each person if messages addressed to them have been quarantined. This summary allows you to “deliver,” “delete,” or “whitelist” the quarantined message(s).

Whitelisting an email means the filter will never treat the sender’s email address as spam. This might be helpful if, for example, your bank’s emails get quarantined often.

Clicking on the links contained in the spam quarantine summary will automatically log you into the spam filter. From there, you can control other aspects of your accounts, including email addresses you always want blocked (see the “Preferences” tab in the spam filter).

Spring Arbor University has spam filters in place to protect your inbox and computer from spam, viruses, etc. Sometimes emails can be mistakenly blocked by our filters. To check the emails that have been blocked, go to https://admin.protection.outlook.com/Quarantine/?wa=wsignin1.0 and sign in. You can "whitelist" items to have them sent to your Arbor email.
